Let's teach Gove a lesson on curriculum plans

The government’s new primary school curriculum can only put children off learning.

Tory education secretary Michael Gove doesn’t want children to take learning into their own hands.

He wants a system where you are educated if you can quote chunks of the Iliad—not one that encourages children to understand, enjoy or express opinions about literature.

Gove has written failure into the education system and children can’t flourish in an atmosphere of constant fear of failure.

Teachers, parents and others recently set up the Primary Charter for education. This puts forward an alternative vision for education and challenges Gove’s attacks.
