Jerry Hicks, 'Unions must demand payment by results'

Issue No. 2361

Jerry Hicks is a member of Unite who stood as a rank and file candidate in the recent leadership election.

“The unions formed the Labour Party and they should own it,” he told Socialist Worker.

“Len McCluskey and his predecessors have ploughed millions into the Labour Party, upfront and unconditional.

“It is trying to ‘reclaim Labour’ by infiltration—instead of payment by results.

“We should withhold our money with a clenched fist and negotiate—whether that’s over candidates or much more importantly on policy.

“We need Labour to pledge it will repeal the anti-union laws, reverse the privatisation of the NHS and scrap the bedroom tax.”
