The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has said that 55 more police officers’ statements may have been altered in the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster.
Last year an independent panel report into the 1989 disaster that killed 96 Liverpool football fans was published.
The report found that nearly 200 cops’ statements were altered after the disaster, 164 of them substantially.
Some 116 officers “removed or altered statements that were unfavourable” to South Yorkshire Police.
The IPCC is now conducting its own investigation into Hillsborough. It has received more than 230 pieces of correspondence, 50 of which relate to police statements.
