We will resist bedroom tax evictions

Issue No. 2363

Tenants and supporters were set to protest against the bedroom tax around England on Saturday of this week.

In Hackney, east London, campaigners will hold a ballot asking whether the council should evict people who fall into rent arrears.

Several councils have passed no eviction policies. If tenants refuse to leave their homes, trying to evict them could cost councils more than paying the bedroom tax for them.

Meanwhile in Leeds around 3,000 people have been summonsed before the court over council tax arrears on Thursday of this week.

The Hands Off Our Homes group is set to protest.

Leeds council has begun to place families in high rise flats previously deemed unsuitable.
