Health workers and campaigners in east London are angry that Barts Health Trust has launched an attack on Charlotte Monro.
Charlotte is a longstanding health activist and chair of the Unison union at Whipps Cross Hospital.
She faces an investigation in connection with her trade union activity and has been barred from representing union members at a Trust-wide consultative forum.
This has come as the Trust has announced possible cuts to jobs and services (see main).
Unison branch secretary Len Hockey said, “We take this extremely seriously as an attack on our union.”
Barts Health Trust has the largest Private Finance Initiative debt in Europe.
The bill for the Royal London hospital in Whitechapel is a staggering £1 billion with repayments of £129 million a year.
The union’s branch committee has called for the disciplinary threat and ban to be lifted, and for Charlotte’s reinstatement. It voted “to take every action necessary to stop this attack”.
