Thousands remember Marikana one year on

Issue No. 2367

More than 15,000 people gathered in Marikana, South Africa, on Friday of last week to mark the first anniversary of the massacre when police gunned down striking miners.

The governing ANC boycotted the memorial organised by the militant AMCU union, saying it had been “hijacked” by political opponents.
