Governments in the West have threatened to pull promised aid from Egypt because of the army’s repression.
The US has sent billions in military aid in the past.
It has promised a further £830 million this year which it claims to be reconsidering.
In response the Gulf states have promised to fund the new Egyptian regime.
The Gulf dictators have demonstrated their willingness to crush revolutionary movements.
They clearly sense an opportunity to fund a new government in Egypt which will block the development of the revolution.
Gulf regimes have already promised a total £8 billion in aid to Egypt’s new regime to further these plans.
