Firefighters vote on national strike to save pensions

Issue No. 2368

Firefighters could strike across Britain against Tory attacks on their pensions. The FBU union’s national strike ballot is set to close on Thursday of this week.

The government wants to hike up employee contributions. This would price many firefighters out of the pension scheme.

And firefighters will face massive cuts to their pensions unless they are able to keep working until they are 60—often impossible due to the demanding and dangerous work.

Firefighters’ action can have a dramatic impact on the government, as well as winning wide public support. And will be a chance to coordinate strikes with teachers and possibly postal workers too.

The union should call action straight away to make the most of the momentum.
