Unite Against Fascism (UAF) is calling on its supporters to mobilise on Saturday 12 October in both Liverpool and Bradford.
In Liverpool the Unite union has called a march against fascism—supported by other unions and UAF.
Six men were sentenced last week after being found guilty of a violent attack on a group of anti-fascists in the city in July 2012.
The gang chased and assaulted the group as they made their way to a UAF fundraising social in Liverpool’s city centre.
The protest is also part of the campaign to kick out British National Party (BNP) fuhrer Nick Griffin, currently an MEP. His North West seat is up for election next year.
Transport has been organised from across Britain.
On the same day the racist English Defence League (EDL) is bringing its thugs to rally in Bradford.
Activists are building a counter-protest in the city.
A public meeting jointly organised by UAF and We are Bradford was set to take place on Wednesday of this week.
Weyman Bennett, joint secretary of UAF, told Socialist Worker, “The EDL is behind a string of attacks on Muslim centres in the last six months.
“They are racists with Nazis at their core. We can’t let them divide us.”
Local MPs are calling for a ban on the EDL march.
But even if this is granted the EDL will have the right to a static demonstration and that will need to be opposed.
