George Grosz. Berlin. Prostitutes, politicians, profiteers

Richard Nagy gallery, 22 Old Bond St, London W1S 4PY

Until 2 November, free entry

A private gallery in one of the poshest corners of London might be the last place you’d expect to find the art of the German revolution. But this rare chance to see 50 works by Dadaist George Grosz is well worth the detour.

Grosz exposed the hypocrisy of bourgeois Berlin with portraits that are both cynical and bursting with life. For Grosz, every artist had to ask themselves, “Are you on the side of the exploiters or on the side of the masses?”
