Porton poison exposed
"THE government has been trying to discredit us. Now it has been verified that what we have been saying is the truth." This is the reaction of former soldier Gordon Bell to the outcome of the police investigation into the government's biological weapons centre at Porton Down, near Sailsbury.
Gordon was one of the thousands of soldiers the government used as guinea pigs to test chemical weapons during the 1950s and 1960s. Wiltshire detectives have found "strong" evidence making it "apparent that a criminal offence of administering a noxious substance" had taken place. The police also found information which "clearly corroborated" that unsuspecting volunteers were told the tests were for the common cold.
