Deaths at work soar

SOME 295 people were killed at work last year. That is a third more than during the previous 12 months, according to the Health and Safety Executive.

The number of workers killed on building sites has also shot up. Official statistics released this week showed that 106 people were killed on Britain's building sites in the 12 months to April 2001. This compares to 87 deaths in the previous year.
