After Genoa

OVER 100 people attended the Genoa eyewitness reportback meeting in Bristol last week. Some 68 people signed up to launch a Globalise Resistance group, and a further 25 joined in a street demonstration at the weekend in the city centre. The meeting decided to send speakers to trade union branches and to build a local demonstration in November to coincide with the World Trade Organisation meeting in Qatar.

  • THERE WAS an exciting reportback from Genoa at a Globalise Resistance meeting in Edinburgh last weekend. The meeting attracted 100 people. People decided to hold a protest outside Esso-one of the main oil firms backing George Bush-in two weeks time. After the meeting there was an impromptu demo outside the Italian embassy in Edinburgh, calling for Italian prime minister Berlusconi's arrest for the murder of a protester in Genoa.
  • AROUND 70 people packed into a meeting in Islington, north London, on Thursday of last week to hear eyewitness reports from Genoa. The event was organised by Globalise Resistance. Speakers from the floor included young people from the local Italian community.
  • Around 50 people came to a reportback in Luton, 70 to one in Hackney, east London, 19 to one in Edmonton, north London, 65 to one in south London, and 45 to one in west London.
