WORKERS FROM several European countries plan to demonstrate in London against job cuts planned by Marks & Spencer. The protest, set for 17 May, is backed by the British TUC, and the GMB and USDAW unions which organise Marks & Spencer and other shop workers.

The demo is being coordinated by the Union Network International (UNI) international trade union grouping. Marks & Spencer plans to close stores across continental Europe. "We expect over 1,000 workers from France and Belgium to travel to London ," a UNI spokesperson told Socialist Worker.
