Dudley defiant

DUDLEY hospitals workers began another round of strike action on Friday of last week. The 600 workers are continuing their battle to keep their jobs in the NHS and block the government's PFI privatisation plan. The strikers' determination has forced the NHS trust to again delay signing the contract to hand over the jobs to the private consortium Summit Healthcare. "This has increased our confidence," said Mark New, joint branch secretary of Dudley Group of Hospitals UNISON union branch. "People were just saying, 'Come on-it's us forcing them to keep putting it off. Let's keep fighting'."

The strikers are continuing to build support for Angela Thompson, a fellow striker who is standing as a prospective Socialist Alliance candidate in the forthcoming election.
