Colleges

BARNET College: Some 200 lecturers across five campuses in north London staged a 24-hour walkout on Thursday of last week. An 80-strong picket at the Grahame Park complex in Collingdale gathered to protest at problems brewing since the merger of Barnet and Hendon colleges last year.

NATFHE union members are unhappy with the disparities in pay and conditions, and crippling workloads. Union leaders say they offered to accept a pay cut in return for a freeze on hours. Management rejected that and the dispute has gone to ACAS.

UXBRIDGE COLLEGE: After two days of disciplinary hearings management has backed off from its attack on leading NATFHE activist and branch chair Roger Cox. Roger was accused of "undermining the good name of the college", but petitions and letters supporting Roger flooded in, and NATFHE members voted for unofficial action if Roger was disciplined.
