SIX WORKERS at Long Products in Rye, Sussex, are fighting for reinstatement after they were sacked when they tried to form a union. The six joined the TGWU union to fight for better working conditions.
TGWU organiser Miles Hubbard says, "They needed to get 50 percent of the workforce in the union to gain automatic recognition under the new Employment Relations Act. When the union members showed that they were determined to use their legal right, the company made five of them redundant and sacked a sixth." The workers were due to demonstrate for their jobs back outside the company on Wednesday of this week.
