Fullarton

OVER 500 workers from Fullarton held a mass meeting last week to discuss how to respond to the sacking of all 800 workers. The workers, who sat in at the plant for four days last week in protest at the sackings, agreed reluctantly to call off the action while negotiations take place.

Many workers at the meeting were angry that their union, the ISTC, is talking about saving some jobs and negotiating redundancies for others. One woman from the floor received a huge round of applause when she criticised the union for not leading a fightback. Many others stormed out in disgust. In the end the meeting gave the union ten days to come up with a solution. One worker told Socialist Worker, "This company has bled us dry. Now they want to sack us, and pick and choose who can come back on temporary contracts."
