Fighting back

PICKETS AT the British Gypsum plant in East Leake in Nottinghamshire bought 19 copies of Socialist Worker last week. 165 copies of the paper were sold on the Hackney Fightback demonstration against the Labour-Tory council's cuts, while 73 were sold on the annual anti-racist demonstration in Glasgow.

14 papers were sold on the demonstration outside Birmingham council against the privatisation of the Direct Labour Organisation. In Sheffield 9 papers were sold at both the DLO and Hallamshire Hospital. In Newcastle 5 papers were sold at both the civic centre and the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Saturday sales were hit hard by the weather, but in Newcastle 134 copies of Socialist Worker were sold, 63 in Nottingham and 20 in Bexley. In the last week 10 people joined the Socialist Workers Party on the Hackney Fightback demonstration; 3 at Swansea University; 1 at Kent University, Leeds and Newcastle.
