STRIKE ACTION planned this week by over 700 workers at Alexander's bus making factory in Falkirk was suspended to allow talks to take place with management. The workers have staged several solid one-day strikes in their fight to increase their bosses' 3 percent pay offer.

The firm is part of the giant Mayflower firm, one of whose directors is former Tory prime minister John Major. The company's profits leapt by 31 percent last year. If no acceptable deal was agreed this week, workers planned further action on Monday and Tuesday.
