THE LONDON Labour Party conference last weekend voted overwhelmingly to reject privatisation and keep the tube under public control. Delegates shouted, "Rubbish!" when Labour's London minister Keith Hill argued that the public-private partnership scheme was "not privatisation". However, Chris Robbins, the candidate backed by the Labour leadership, defeated left winger Geoff Martin for the post of London Labour Party chair by 60 percent to 40 percent.
There were many questions about the vote. Geoff Martin said it was "a little bit of Florida beamed into London".
