DUDLEY HEALTH workers are escalating their strike against the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and will start a two-week strike on Monday. Workers voted for upping their action at a mass rally last week which came at the end of a 12-day strike to stop the transfer of their jobs to multinational companies. The strikers' determination has hardened during the course of their 42 days of strike action they have already taken.
Last week's rally voted to begin the two weeks of action at midday so that porters, domestics, drivers, laundry and other ancillary staff can walk off their jobs together. They are also planning to demonstrate against New Labour health secretary Alan Milburn.
Dudley workers know their fight is about the future of the NHS. That is why they are demanding UNISON leaders call a national day of action and national demonstration.
