Bin workers

ANGRY BIN workers in Manchester went on unofficial strike for four days last week after one of them was sacked for remarks made to a manager. The worker at Grimshaw Lane depot has worked for Manchester City Council for over 20 years.

When his colleagues heard the news they walked out immediately. The workers, all TGWU members, were then threatened with the sack if they did not go back to work.

They decided to return to work but want an official ballot for action. This comes amidst a general atmosphere of bullying and intimidation from management. "This is not over," says one worker. "We want official backing. We want an end to this bullying."
