Scrap Trident demo
FOUR HUNDRED people demonstrated against Trident nuclear weapons in Glasgow last Saturday. The "Time up for Trident" march was called jointly by Scottish CND and the Scottish TUC. At the rally speakers emphasised that polls continue to show a majority of Scots opposed to nuclear weapons.
Scottish CND chair Neil Cruikshank assured workers on the nuclear programme that their skills could be used for civilian purposes, and that scrapping Trident would not cost jobs. Left wing Labour member of the Scottish Parliament Cathy Jamieson reminded the rally that, despite the pro-nuclear position of New Labour, unilateral nuclear disarmament remains Scottish Labour Party policy.
