Britain the least friendly to family
BRITAIN IS the least family-friendly place in Europe, says a report by the National Family and Parenting Institute.
- Maternity pay in Britain is less than half the European Union average.
- Only 2 percent of children under three receive publicly funded childcare compared to 23 percent in France and 21 percent in Finland.
- Parents have the right to just 12 weeks of unpaid leave until the child is five. In the US parents can take up to two years of paid leave until their child is four.
- Fathers in Britain work the longest hours in Europe-46.6 hours a week compared with 41.5 a week in France. That means workers in Britain work one month a year longer than workers in France.
