THE BRITISH navy had to take all 12 of its nuclear hunter-killer submarines out of action last week. Cracks were found on the cooling system of a sub's reactor. The 12 subs have cost 12 billion over the last 30 years. This could pay for a 7,500 rise for all teachers, plus 24 fully equipped hospitals. New Labour should scrap these subs and spend the money on services. Instead it is to spend 30 million fixing the subs.
