Bosses grab 20 percent

Company directors' salaries rose by a staggering 21.2 percent last year. A survey by the Labour Research magazine also found that as many as 138 directors of major companies earned �1 million or over. A total of 470 directors got rises of more than �500,000 last year.

At the same time pay rises for private sector workers are running at 5 percent. Public sector workers get 3 percent on average. Council workers in Scotland are being offered only 2.5 percent.
