Cambridge Two freed!

THE TWO Cambridge charity workers who were wrongly jailed in an outrageous miscarriage of justice seven months ago were released from prison on Tuesday.

Ruth Wyner and John Brock were sentenced to five and four years in prison because they did not know that a few of the homeless people they worked with were dealing small quantities of heroin.

The Court of Appeal decided this week that there were sufficient doubts about the original trial that Ruth and John should be released on unconditional bail pending a full appeal hearing. That is a testament to seven months of campaigning, which won trade union backing, by Ruth and John's supporters. "Of course I am overjoyed to be out," Ruth told Socialist Worker, "but I should not have been jailed in the first place. The campaign is going to continue until our innocence is proven."

The 60 campaigners outside the court vowed to fight on until that happens.
