WORKERS FROM Ford Dagenham were set to lobby a meeting between Ford management and union officials on Thursday of this week. Union officials were to try to convince Ford to build an alternative car at Dagenham in order to save jobs and the long term future of the plant.

"The engine plant is not safe if the PTA and Body plants close. This is a fight for all of us," says a Dagenham worker. Jobs at the Croydon, Enfield, Swansea and Southampton plants are also under threat as a knock-on effect from the end of mass car production at Dagenham. Strike action at Dagenham could bring the whole of Ford Europe grinding to a halt in hours.
