  • UNIONS FEAR that 750 jobs could go at Daewoo's research centre in Worthing if Ford takes over the Korean-owned car maker. The threat of job losses comes as Ford takes over Land Rover's Solihull plant in the West Midlands. There are fears of job losses there, and also at Rover's Gaydon plant, which Ford also now has a stake in.
  • NHS CONSULTANTS are boosting their income by over 40 percent through doing private work. Private health consultancy Laing and Buisson says consultants got �700 million last year from private healthcare. Yet New Labour has so far refused to ban them from taking time off from the NHS.
  • BLAIR'S favourite union leader, Sir Ken Jackson of the AEEU, is taking up a post on the board of the nuclear waste company Nirex.
