UP TO 2,000 manual construction workers at the Grangemouth Petrochemical complex, 20 miles west of Edinburgh, walked out on strike on Tuesday of last week. Workers action was taken after a mass meeting where it was unanimously decided to protest at their unions' action in accepting a new pay and conditions deal.

The union leaders accepted a pay and conditions deal despite an earlier ballot of the entire UK workforce rejecting it. Ian, one of the striking electricians, told Socialist Worker, "A half day strike is just not enough. We are sick of our union leadership trampling over our rights. There will be more action."
