Got you under my skin
By Ruth Pallesen-Mustikay
THE FILM Being John Malkovich is a bizarre comedy that's well worth seeing. The plot is about a frustrated puppeteer, Craig, whose life changes when he is forced to take up a day job as a filing clerk. His life takes an exciting turn when he discovers an entrance into the actor John Malkovich's brain.
Craig and a female colleague turn this surreal opportunity into a major business venture. With the slogan, "Have you ever wanted to be someone else?" they begin charging people $200 for a 15 minute trip inside the actor's head. Craig turns from a rather pathetic character into a ruthless puppet master who is able to control John Malkovich.
A bitter love triangle opens up between Craig, his wife Lotte, and his female business partner. Craig becomes totally obsessed, and the film begins to show a darker side. The plot might sound weird, but Craig's character is a universal figure-he is frustrated at being a failure and wants out of life. But when he literally becomes someone else he starts to live his dreams and fantasies. You are constantly surprised by the film, and even though it's mayhem on screen, it's very funny and I absolutely loved it.
