MS sufferers fight back

MORE THAN 1,000 sufferers from the killer disease multiple sclerosis (MS) lobbied parliament last week over fears that vital drugs they depend on could be banned from NHS prescription. Beta interferon is one of the only drugs which can help alleviate the symptoms of MS. Yet the MS Society says the government appears to be looking to ban it from the NHS because of the cost. "The signals we have had from ministers are that they have not only asked the question, but already determined the answer," says Peter Cardy of the MS Society.
