BAe bung for palace in the sky
THE government's decision to bung BAe (British Aerospace) 530 million has received almost universal welcome. But why should multinationals get this cash from the government? BAe makes around 1,000 million profit a year-with a large part coming from arms sales, such as the Hawk fighters to Indonesia. Now it wants even more to develop a super - jet for the rich which will have "brass handrails, full size beds, a gym, a hair salon, a row of boutiques and a cinema".
While a third of the world has no access to clean drinking water and 125 million children are denied any sort of education, New Labour is giving funds to develop a palace in the sky for the scum at the top. As for the argument that it is all about jobs, will New Labour demand that BAe now reverses the hundreds of job losses it has made over the last two years?
