Extra fees plan

THE PRICE of going to university could be set to rocket. Already the government is making students pay tuition fees of over �1,000 a year. Now the heads of some colleges are pushing for the introduction of top-up fees, which will mean they can charge extra fees of up to �5,000 a year. Education secretary David Blunkett promised not to introduce top-up fees but now says he wants "an honest debate".
