STAGECOACH BUS workers in Lancashire are to ballot for strikes against a pay offer that amounts to a 15p an hour rise. It is just over a year since the Stagecoach workers last struck over pay. During that dispute a manager driving a scab bus crushed a picket, bus worker Frank Dean, to death.

At a union meeting of around 60 workers in Leyland last weekend workers voted to ballot for strike action again. Stagecoach workers in Manchester held the first of a planned series of one day strikes in September last year and won a 6.5 percent pay rise. One driver in Lancashire said, "Compare what we've been offered to what they've got in Manchester. It seems Stagecoach only listen when we withdraw our labour."
