  • AROUND 100 parents and children protested against the threatened closure of Rockwood Nursery in Burnley recently. The nursery is one of many under threat from a Lancashire County Council county-wide review. Parents at Rockwood Nursery have launched a petition and further protests are likely.
  • ONE HUNDRED and fifty people demonstrated in Plymouth during a visit of Tony Blair last Thursday. It was an angry lobby with a host of trade union banners and local campaign groups taking part.
  • WORKERS ARE fighting to save Spartan Redheugh steelworks, a steel rolling mill in Dunston, Gateshead. On Monday 31 January the 150 workers, who have been made redundant, protested and lobbied a creditors meeting held in Newcastle. The workers have launched a campaign to save the steel mill. They are fighting to stop 150 lives being thrown on the scrapheap.
