Poll backs Cubie
FOUR IN five people in Scotland support the recommendations of the Cubie report into student finance, according to a poll in the Herald newspaper last week. Labour and the Liberal Democrats in Scotland are still locked in talks about how to respond to Cubie's recommendations to scrap up-front tuition fees and reintroduce some grants. New Labour is determined to water down Cubie's proposals because they have huge implications for England and Wales. Students, parents and trade unionists need to organise pressure on the Scottish Parliament to implement Cubie in full, and keep up the fight for free education.
