THE Socialist Worker Student Society (SWSS) is to hold a "SWSS Conference 2000" in Manchester next month. It will be open to all students who are members of SWSS in colleges across Britain.
Matthew Cookson, one of the national SWSS organisers, says, "So many people are looking for an alternative to the existing system. We want SWSS members to feel they are part of an organisation that is fighting the capitalist system, organising resistance and discussing alternatives. There will be a forum with guest speakers on "People and Protest-What Next After Seattle?" with an eyewitness from the protests against the WTO in Seattle and a speaker from Jubilee 2000. There will be also be a forum on racism, justice and the state. Plus we are organising workshops on different aspects of socialist politics -economics, oppression, philosophy- to be introduced by SWSS members. We will also discuss a resolution on the way forward for socialists in the colleges in the new millennium and really would like all SWSS members to attend."
