  • 1900 USA (Sat, 7pm, C4). Second part of documentary about the US at the beginning of the 20th century. It promises to contrast the hopes for a new world with the reality of racism in the Southern states and brutal working conditions.
  • THE FRENCH CONNECTION (Sat, 9pm, BBC2) is the classic thriller starring Gene Hackman.
  • It is followed by TRACING THE FRENCH CONNECTION (Sat, 10.40pm, BBC2), which tells the real story of the drugs bust on which the film is based.
  • THE PELICAN BRIEF (Sat, 10.15pm, ITV). Based on the John Grisham bestseller, this film highlights how corporations destroy the environment in their reckless pursuit of profits.
  • 4 LATER (Wed, 12.25am, C4) starts this week with a documentary about the increase in mass protests around the world, looking at Reclaim the Streets.
  • WHITE TRIBE (Thurs, 9pm, C4). Darcus Howe's controversial new series looks at Bernard Manning's comedy club this week and explores the scapegoating of Eastern European refugees in Dover.
