TONY BLAIR used the New Year's honours list to reward the rich and powerful. Richard Branson of Virgin and Alan Sugar of Amstrad were both made knights. Other new knights are Ken Morrison of Morrison supermarkets and Ian Robinson, chief executive of Scottish Power. Sir John Birt, the former director general of the BBC, becomes a baron, as does former Tory cabinet minister and Euro commissioner Leon Brittan.
