THE BATTLE for democracy inside the London region of the MSF continues as three officers remain suspended from the union. MSF leaders suspended them last November for preparing a legal challenge to the Labour Party's decision not to allow MSF members a vote over Labour's London mayor candidate. The last London regional council of the union, in December, saw around 45 people attend. Many were furious that their officers still face disciplinary proceedings.
The national executive has ignored the motions condemning the suspensions that were overwhelmingly passed at November's regional council meeting. At December's national executive meeting the leadership did not even raise the question of the election of Labour's London mayoral candidate, due to go ahead at the end of January. Many London MSF members are shocked that the union's leadership is not demanding the Labour Party restores their vote, yet is vigorously pursuing a vendetta against the London region's officers.
