Heads roll in free schools

Unqualified head teachers at two free schools have resigned this month. 

Lindsey Snowdon left the Discovery New School in Sussex while Annaliese Briggs went from Pimlico Primary Academy in London.

The resignations add to a growing crisis for the Tories’ flagship education policy.


Energy giant ‘misled people’

Scottish Power has been fined £8.5 million after regulator Ofgem said its customers were misled. 

The fine follows a £10.5 million fine to energy firm SSE in April for “prolonged and excessive” mis-selling of gas and electricity.


Bloody Sunday paras grilled 

Some 20 former soldiers will be questioned under criminal caution into the deaths of 14 men in Derry in 1972.

The paratroopers could face murder, attempted murder and criminal injury charges.
