Pupil Support Assistants set to strike over imposed job changes

Issue No. 2377

Some 1,000 Pupil Support Assistants (PSAs) in Glasgow were set to strike against imposed changes to their job remit on Thursday of this week.

The Unison union members work in schools run by the Labour controlled council. It wants PSAs on £11,800 per year to carry out specialist tasks such as changing catheters and giving injections.

PSAs have refused to carry out these duties for six months and have now decided to escalate their action.

The first day of all out action will be followed by three weeks of localised one day strikes.
