Around 1,000 pupil support assistants (PSAs) struck in Glasgow on Thursday of last week.
The action closed ten primary, secondary and Addition Support for Learning schools.
The PSAs are members of the Unison union.
They are protesting at Glasgow council’s insistence that they carry out healthcare and give medication to children.
The council have issued threatening letters to workers giving notice that changes to job descriptions will be imposed.
Carol Ball is education convenor and chair of Glasgow City Unison branch.
She said, “We care about children but these are among the lowest paid workers in Glasgow council. They are being coerced to carry out tasks of increasing complexity.”
Workers held a mass lobby of 600 strikers outside the council chambers letting the council know, “We are not nurses, we are PSAs.”
Workers plan to continue the action by holding one-day strikes in each of the three council areas in Glasgow over the next three weeks.
