The racist billboard vans telling “illegal” immigrants to “go home” are being permanently withdrawn.
After a storm of criticism home secretary Theresa May was forced to admit they were “too much of a blunt instrument”.
The government’s official evaluation found 11 people who had left the country as a result of the scheme.
A separate scheme in Glasgow and Hounslow that put posters up in immigration reporting centres has also been withdrawn.
One said, “Is life here hard? Going Home is simple”. This too led to protests.
