I visited a few picket lines and they all showed the same solidarity and unity in this fight against our pension thefts.

Hopefully fire minister Brandon Lewis will come back to the table and give firefighters the pensions we signed up to, pay for and deserve.

We already pay about £320 a month into our pensions which makes them one of the most expensive.

In April 2014 contributions will rise for the third year running, to over £4,000 a year. This prices many workers out of the scheme.

The government is giving misleading information that all firefighters who earn £29,000 and started work at 20 and finish at 60 will receive a pension of £19,600. Yet this is only achievable if you get the full 40 years in service.

Their own evidence says most firefighters won’t be able to work until 60. This will lead to mass sackings and not getting a pension till the retirement age or getting a lesser pension—as low as 40-50 percent less.

It’s a disgrace and we will stand strong and fight these detrimental changes to the end.
