Campaigners form chain around Barnsley central library

Issue No. 2380

Up to 200 people formed a human chain round Barnsley central library last Saturday to protest against Barnsley’s  Labour council’s plans to demolish it.

Car drivers hooted their horns as they drove past the library.

Campaigner Dave Gibson said, “To get so many people out demanding that the library be left untouched shows how much it means to the community.”

Campaigners are running a People’s Alternative Library Referendum this week, asking if the council should demolish the library.

Dave said, “Our campaign is making an impact. We are determined to continue until they announce that they have abandoned plans to demolish the library.”

Public meeting to save Barnsley central library.
