Taking action against construction blacklist

Issue No. 2380

The TUC Day of Action on Blacklisting was set to take place on Wednesday of this week. Construction workers planned to target high profile sites.

Demonstrations were organised across Britain with rallies planned in the Westminster parliament, Scottish parliament and the Welsh Assembly.

Construction sites will also be targeted with Laing O’Rourke’s “Cheesegrater” site in the City of London set to be a main focus of the day.

Protests will also take place at sites in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Lincoln and Southampton.

Family members and supporters attended a vigil outside the Laing O'Rourke site in King’s Cross, London, for Richard Laco who died on the site this month.

Bosses also called a minute silence at the same time as the vigil last Thursday inside the site.

However, Richard’s family members and others were not allowed to join those inside.
