Anti-fracking protesters set up camp in Eccles

by Dave Sewell
Issue No. 2381

Protesters have set up a camp in Eccles, Greater Manchester, against plans to drill for gas in Barton Moss.

IGas wants to explore for coal bed methane that could be extracted by techniques similar to fracking.

Fracking has been linked to earthquakes and water contamination. The Environment Agency has given permission for exploratory drilling.

Protesters who took part in the blockade of Balcombe in Sussex earlier this year were among those who pitched tents on the site last week.
